About the artist
Lachlan Orton is an illustrator/ designer based in Australia, harking from a farm in rural Victoria but relocated to Melbourne for university of which where he currently resides. He hopes to one day return to the country’s peaceful solitudes provided (but not exclusive to) if he finds himself aged 60+, single and parent to several cats and a singular exotic animal he naturally acquired somewhere along his adventures (fingers crossed for sloth :3)
Lachy’s art has colours (lot of them), it has bizarre and whimsical lil’ guys (quite a few of those also), there’s often a lot of ‘twinkling’ and ‘whooshing’ and quite likely an ongoing narrative that he’ll imbue in a piece but never tells his audience about (the means of which will kindle his tortured artist persona for years to come). What Lachlan’s art may not have is horses or dogs (he can’t draw those), anatomically accurate hands, feet and faces are also hard to come by (its part of the ‘abstraction’ he says) and there’s unfortunately not many instances deemed appropriate to use purples; spanning violet to fuchsia (rip that band-aid off now). However, for all that Lachy’s art is and isn’t, there’s undoubtedly careful and considered intentionality, in the presence of continued exploration, a passion to hone his craft for the service of both storytelling and an evoking of feeling which is a staple characteristics that define his style.
Whilst living in Melbourne, Lachy studied graphic design, becoming adept with the Adobe suit and gaining competency as a designer with a strong understanding for how illustration and visual marketing synergise.
As a recent graduate (and no doubt a handsome young man), he is bundling with youthful vigour and intrigue as to how his creative practise will continue evolve, grow and manifest - hopeful for it to serve a greater purpose, for collaboration and a resonance from like-minded individuals.
