Look, naming drawings might not be my forte, but its not wrong, I just wanted to draw green things. What started as a doodle and an intrigue in illustrative borders, became a hearty illustration of leafy proportions.
This artwork is a figurehead for a repeated love-hate phenomena that occurs within my studio practice. Every aspect of this illustration I adore, except when I see it all together. I loved making an illustrative border but found myself lost as to how to fill it. When finally deciding on the dragon and making a centrepiece I was satisfied with, I couldn’t help but feel the inner and outer interact in a clunky and inorganic way. What is left is an illustration that will never gain my true pride, at least not from afar. Like much of my practice, the devil is in the detail.
That being said, things to note of which I love include:
The dragon toe beans
The dominos
The whole bottom left corner- cute hills, peas in a pod,
party frog & a flower who accepts his current existenceThe perspective change with the lady bug
