Pokemon piece (2023)

Pokemon was my introduction to art, and an integral influence over my character design.
That being said, I didn’t attempt to draw any till very recently, this is due to the fact I had somewhat of a mentality that fan-art didn’t fit into my brand, that and I thought it would not do me any favours in gaining recognition and acceptance from those who may already find my style too comical and childish.

When I sat down to start this piece it started from the bottom characters, doing one a day, with no intention for composition, just self indulgent scribbles. At some point I realised my free-will extended to drawing what I want, how I want it. And thus, I mapped out this piece on a laundromat bench and proceeded to begin one of my more grander illustrations to date.

This artwork has been reworked and expanded upon over the course of a couple years, being properly finished early 2025. I went through a period where my artistic eye and skill/problem solving were unbalanced - I liked the characters and the composition somewhat, but couldn’t figure out how to be satisfied with it. There’s lots of fun textures and artistic choices which broke the boundaries of my usual work - the use of gradients, noise as well as colour masks. It has all culminated to be a very rewarding piece, and I expect to draw more Pokemon in the future.
